Raybestos® Brakes Help Kyle Busch Earn His Third Consecutive Win at Spring Richmond Race

Four of Top Five Finishers On Raybestos Brakes

McHenry, IL — May 2, 2011  - Kyle Busch earned Joe Gibbs Racing and Raybestos Brakes & Chassis a second 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup series season win this weekend in The Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Speedway.
Busch, in his No. 18 M&M’s Toyota, crossed the stripe just 1.805 seconds ahead of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammate Denny Hamlin.  JGR has now won the past FIVE straight races at Richmond on their Raybestos Brakes, with Busch winning the past three spring races, and Hamlin winning the past two fall events.
With the benefit of more than 100 years of on-track development, the famous Raybestos “ST” series of racing brake pad compounds provided Busch with consistent, reliable stopping power under prolonged high-temperature operation.

“The Raybestos brakes performed well for both Kyle and Denny all race long,” said Dave Rogers, Crew Chief of Busch’s No. 18 M&M’s Toyota. “The Raybestos package has been so strong for us over the past couple seasons… It’s really helped contribute toward JGR’s success at these short tracks.”
Roush Fenway Racing teammates David Ragan and series points leader Carl Edwards secured fourth and fifth place, respectively. Both of their Fords also ran the Raybestos brake package to help optimize their short-track performance.  In addition, Juan Pablo Montoya earned the pole for The Crown Royal 400 in his Raybestos-equipped Earnhardt Ganassi Racing No. 42 Chevy on Friday.
The Raybestos Racing calipers used by NASCAR teams like Joe Gibbs Racing and Roush Fenway Racing are engineered to provide a competitive advantage at hard-braking short tracks. With one of the most advanced caliper designs in all of motorsport, the Raybestos “Short Track” brake package employed at tracks like Richmond features an optimized 6-piston caliper design in the front, mono-block aluminum alloy construction, integral crossover cooling, and 1.65” thick rotors paired with 1.18” thick high-friction race pads.

For reliable performance, all the Joe Gibbs Sprint Cup racecars are also equipped with Raybestos Racing ball joints and tie rods. The premium quality chassis parts help fine-tune each car’s suspension setup for optimal grip and handling.

The lessons learned on tracks like Richmond are continually translated into product improvements across the entire Raybestos product line, which includes racing, street performance, police patrol/pursuit vehicles and heavy-duty trucks.
